Liberating Health Improvement

Report Published: Liberating Health Improvement

On February 10th, the RSPH [Royal Society for Public Health] undertook some research and hosted a seminar titled “Liberating Health Improvement”. Participants came from around the country to explore issues and opportunities associated with current health policy and its impact on the health improvement workforce.

The format for the seminar was short presentations followed by group work and discussion and much lively debate. The morning was facilitated by Maureen Murfin, an experienced workforce development advisor from Derbyshire and the first presentation slot enabled Richard Parish (CEO RSPH [Royal Society for Public Health]) and Martin Seymour (Principal Consultant, Healthy Communities Programme, LGID) to set the scene with a review of current policy from both health and local government perspectives. Participants then discussed opportunities and challenges presented by the proposed reforms.

The seminar was the culmination of a short scoping review commissioned by RSPH [Royal Society for Public Health] in order to help us understand and respond to the needs of commissioners and providers who are charged with taking forward the new agenda. The findings will also be used more widely to help inform and shape discussions with policy makers at local and national levels.
