Project on commissioning and health promotion
This is funded by the Department of Health England and led by Richard Shircore, to help NHS organisations to commission health promoting activity as effectively as possible. World Class Commissioning presents an important opportunity for health promotion –but commissioners need to be able to scope programmes well and set appropriate standards for the workforce.

National Social Marketing Centre
Joint work on the relationship between social marketing and health promotion, including a joint session at the World Social Marketing Conference in 2008 and a joint discussion document: Social Marketing for Health & Specialised Health Promotion: Stronger together – weaker apart – a paper for debate.
 
UK Public Health Register
Offers registration for defined specialists in health promotion through retrospective portfolio assessment; retrospective registration for practitioners is expected to open in late 2010.

Faculty of Public Health
Membership of the Practitioner Development Working Group which is mapping the education and training that exists for public health practitioners; identifying gaps in provision; developing proposals for continuing professional development; and developing a prospective assessment framework for accreditation.
 
Public Health Workforce Programme Board

We are members of this group, which co-ordinates a wide range of projects to implement the Public Health Skills and Career Framework, including Shaping the Future of Health Promotion.

Health Promotion and Community Well-Being Organisation and Partnership Awards

In 2008, the Royal Society for Public Health, in partnership with other members of the Shaping the Future collaboration, launched the Health Promotion and Community Wellbeing Organisation and Partnership Awards. The purpose of the Awards is to recognise organisational excellence in health promotion and community wellbeing.

Four organisations and one partnership received the first Health Promotion and Community Well-Being Organisation and Partnership Awards in 2008. Five to six more sites are being recruited for the 2009 Awards scheme.

International Union of Health Promotion and Education

We maintain close links with the IUHPE including participation in the development of the Global Consensus Statement on Domains of Core Competency in 2008.
