IUHPE Global Consensus Statement on Domains of Core Competency

In June 2008, the RSPH [Royal Society for Public Health] and Shaping the Future participated in a global consensus conference in Galway, Ireland, chaired by Professor Margaret Barry, which reached accord and issued a statement on domains of core competency, standards and quality assurance in health promotion and education.

Nuffield Council on Bioethics: 'Public health: Ethical issues'

This important report, published in 2008, describes how the state has a duty to help everyone lead a healthy life and to reduce health inequalities. The ‘stewardship model’ sets out guiding principles for making decisions about public health policies. The ‘intervention ladder’ helps consider the acceptability of different public health policies. Public Health Skills and Career Framework

This multidisciplinary, multi-agency and multi-professional framework was developed by the Public Health Resource Unit (PHRU) and Skills for Health, and published the Public Health Skills and Career Framework in 2008. It is a coherent, flexible framework for use across the UK and is endorsed by the four UK Departments of Health. It is based on four core and five defined areas of competence, described at nine levels of application, and can be used in any organisational setting.
