APHA Annual Conference in San Diego

20 November 2008

This year’s American Public Health Association (APHA) conference was held in San Diego, California, between 25-29th October with the theme ‘Public Health without Borders’. In the RSPH session, Dr. Selwyn Hodge, Chair elect of the RSPH, and Dr Mahmood Adil, Director of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), discussed regulation of health and social care in England. Dr Hodge first looked at the lessons learned from the development of systems for improving school standards, over the past 15 years by The Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED). Dr Adil then went on to discuss how the CQC is undertaking its role to achieve best outcomes in regulating health and social care.
