Arts and Health Award 2009
In 2008, the RSPH [] in association with Canterbury Christ Church University established a new award to mark significant contributions to research and practice in the field of Arts and Health. The focus of the award in 2008 was Music and Health. This year, the award will recognise important contributions to the role of the Arts in Mental Health.
The award will recognise substantial achievements for either:
- Original contributions to Arts and Mental Health Research and Evaluation
- Innovative initiatives in Arts and Mental Health Practice in Healthcare or Community Settings
Nominations are invited for consideration by the Award Committee, of individuals or organisations / projects whose work has furthered the field of Arts and Mental Health in one or more of the following ways:
- Through the development of conceptual and theoretical perspectives on the linkages between the arts and the promotion of mental wellbeing and health
- Through conducting significant research or evaluation studies that contribute to a developing evidence base of the contribution of the arts to mental health care and community health promotion
- Through the development of innovative programmes of arts and creative activity in healthcare or community contexts in the interests of promoting mental health and tackling inequalities in mental health
Nominations should be received by Friday 3rd July 2009 and will be considered by a special Award Committee established by the RSPH []. A decision will be announced by the end of July 2009, and the award will be presented during at the Annual General Meeting of the RSPH [], on 15th September 2009

In making the nomination, please explain in no more than 500 words, why you feel the work of the individual or organisation deserves to be recognised through an award from the RSPH []. Please ensure that you describe the nature of the research or project and highlight the nature of its original or innovative contribution to the field of Arts and Mental Health.
Please also ensure that you have the permission of the person or organisation you wish to nominate to give the details requested below.
