Evidence of the impact of UHI
Evidence of the impact of UHI on health behaviour change in the workplace
The Centre for Workplace Health, St Mary’s University College Twickenham has been delivering Understanding Health Improvement as part of the development and support of Workplace Health Champions
Project findings from ‘Activate Your Workplace’ include:
- Evidence to suggest that in total, staff physical activity levels increased by 14% (range 11-25%). ’
- Interventions concerning nutrition fitted into two areas, policy and healthy eating clubs; the majority of which were lunch time and fruit clubs
- Lunch time cycling clubs were useful for encouraging staff who had not cycled for some time to start cycling and were effective at increasing the cycling confidence of these individuals
- The role of a trained Workplace Health Champion was essential to developing successful workplace health programmes.
The report states that ‘Training for the role in health improvement’ was a key component of the workplace health programmes and that UHI ‘offered the Champions an accredited award for their role and set a standard that other Champions could be trained to'
The Centre for Workplace Health St Mary’s University College Twickenham was one of the first places to have a Train the tutor event . Activate Your Workplace Summary Report may be found at: http://www.smuc.ac.uk/Community/workplace-health/projects.htm
