Following publication of the Scottish Government’s new diet and obesity strategy, expected later in 2017, and introduction of the Soft Drinks Industry Levy, this seminar will provide delegates with an opportunity to discuss key issues for their implementation, as well as wider policy priorities.

Sessions will consider practical ways to address challenges associated with consumption, looking at prevention, intervention and changes to consumer behaviour. Further sessions will consider ways in which to overcome barriers associated with business engagement and the steps the industry may need to take in relation to product reformulation, advertising and portion sizes.

The seminar will bring together members of The Scottish Parliament and senior officials from The Scottish Government along with regulators and other agencies, public health professionals, representatives from the food and drink industry, including manufacturers, retailers, and suppliers, local government officials, representatives of the dietetic and pharmaceutical industries, academics, charities and consumer groups, together with reporters from the national and trade press based in Scotland and elsewhere.
