The new RSPH Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention and Control for Special Procedures Practitioners qualification will launch in spring 2019.
The objective of the qualification is to equip learners with the knowledge and understanding of the importance of infection control and prevention, associated infectious and noninfectious hazards, good infection practice and controls based upon an awareness of the chain of infection and standard infection control precautions.
The qualification is for special procedures practitioners who are either employed, self-employed or as practitioners managing a business. Special procedures practitioners are individuals who practice acupuncture, body piercing, electrolysis or tattooing.
The qualification will cover both infectious and non-infectious hazards associated with special procedures, and how risks from infectious and non-infectious hazards can be controlled and the legislative requirements associated with these.
The qualification will be assessed by a multiple choice test consisting of 30 questions, which should be completed in 60 minutes. The pass mark for the qualification will be 25/30.
