Shaping health and wellbeing: from the virtual world to the real world

Time: 4:30pm - 7pm

Following on from the AGM, a free two-part event hosted by Shirley Cramer CBE, Chief Executive of RSPH, will explore first the impact of the virtual world, and then the impact of the ‘real’ world, on our health and wellbeing.

Part I: The impact of social media on mental health and wellbeing

This is an issue RSPH has been campaigning on since the publication of our widely-cited #StatusOfMind report. We will be joined by Kati Hall and Deborah Casswell from ADCAN, an organisation who challenge unsigned filmmakers to use their creativity as a force for good.

We have partnered with ADCAN to inspire filmmakers to tackle the impact of social media on young people and a selection of their film submissions will be showcased at this event.

Also speaking will be Tanya Goodin, digital consultant and founder of Time to Log Off, an initiative that aims to help people build a healthier and happier relationship with technology.

Part II: Launch of the Healthy Lives photography commission

In partnership with The Health Foundation, we commissioned this set of images from photographer Matt Writtle to illuminate the environmental factors and social determinants that shape our health and wellbeing.

This is done through the lens of one district in the Chilterns where life expectancy varies by as much as nine years between different wards. Matt will be with us to share his own learning experience in taking on the commission.

Refreshments will be provided.
