Overview

Speaker: Dr John V Lee, Chair PWTAG and Director Leegionella Ltd

Chaired by: Howard C C Gosling, Past-Chairman of the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group

This webinar will consider the types of hazards and risks associated with the installation and operation of water systems at temporary and permanent sites indoors and outdoors.  The management of the risks by application of the water safety plan approach will be discussed.

The temporary nature of water systems required for outdoor festivals, and the intermittent usage of water systems at permanent exhibition sites and buildings, can jeopardise the quality of water delivered by them.  Sometimes the equipment or devices being exhibited, or required for exhibits to be displayed, may also have inherent risks.

With large gatherings of people there is always a risk of outbreaks of infectious disease. The risk of gastrointestinal disease can be enhanced by a lack of adequate safe water supplies for personal hygiene, and food preparation and outbreaks have occurred at outdoor festivals. Spa pools on display have caused outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease including one of the world’s largest.
