PART 1: Health Inequalities
The first part of the course provides learners with the essential context behind some of the inequalities in health and wellbeing that exist across the UK. This topic explores the effects of these inequalities and their potential impacts on local communities. This section will help learners to identify the factors which lead to health inequalities and outline the policies and methodologies that have been pioneered to reduce disparities in the public’s health

PART 2: Communication
Some of the most effective public health advances have caused change through the way their messages are communicated. The second topic introduces learners to the communication skills that are effective in delivering health messages and why these are vital for large scale health improvement. By the end of the module, effective communication is vital in the promotion of health messages. learners will be able to identify the barriers to communication that may affect how the public understand health messages and strategies for overcoming these

PART 3: Promotion of Health and Wellbeing
There are huge swathes of definitions of health and wellbeing available and it can be difficult to know which ones have scientific and academic backing. The third module provides learners with concrete definitions of these terms by explaining the western scientific model and World Health Organisation definitions of ‘health and wellbeing’. By the end of the module, learners will be able to identify positive and negative influences on health and wellbeing of individuals and communities, applying the definitions from academic institutions. They’ll also be able to provide examples of strategies and resources that can be used for promoting health and wellbeing within a community setting.

PART 4: Impact of Change
Changes in lifestyle can have untold positive effects on someone’s long-term wellbeing. In the final topic, learners will explore some key examples of behaviour change that can improve an individual’s health. They will also be able to outline how individuals and wider communities can be encouraged to change their behaviour to make a lasting impact on their health.
