Applications now open for 2026
We are now accepting submissions for the eighth annual Student Essay Competition in partnership with SAGE Publications. The competition is open to all RSPH Student Members and the deadline for entries is 1 September 2026.
The winning article will be published in the January 2027 issue of the journal Perspectives in Public Health, and the winner will also receive £200 Amazon vouchers, £100 SAGE book vouchers, one year’s free RSPH membership*, and a 6-month term on the Perspectives in Public Health editorial board.
The essay must be no longer than 1,000 words and include no more than 10 references and one table or figure. Prospective authors will write on the following essay title:
What will make the biggest contribution to improving the public’s health in the next 10 years?

Past winners
Our 2024 winner of the Student Essay Competition was Fatma Zahra Hassan, a student at the University of Leicester. Fatma's essay discussed telehealth and accessibility from a unique perspective addressing the question of whether digitalisation within healthcare is being welcomed and how this will affect the public’s health in the next decade. Fatma’s paper was published in the January 2025 issue of Perspectives in Public Health.
