How Did you get into Pest Control?
Pest control was never a career I had considered, which is surprising considering that my father spent over 40 years in the industry. Many childhood memories involved laying in the back of the Rentokil Astra Estate van on our way to coastal holidays and being transported to many sporting events.
In 1998 I decided on a career change and the opportunity came to join Terminix as a sales surveyor.
How has your career developed since you started?
Since those early days I have owned two companies, spent a period as a operations director and also as a technical trainer for a national company.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love the investigation side of the job. A customer has a problem and it’s up to us to investigate, find the root cause and a treatment plan and then propose and complete recommendations to ensure the problem doesn’t happen again in the future.
What would you say to someone considering a career in Pest Control?
Pest control is a very rewarding career. There are many different roles to consider including administration, general pest control, specialist roles such as wildlife management and bird control. It’s a life time of learning and I love it.
