In recognition of achievements in promoting health and addressing inequalities, fourteen organisations spanning the public, private and third sector, have achieved a RSPH Health & Wellbeing Award.
The Health & Wellbeing Awards, which are now in their seventh year, recognise organisations who have demonstrated innovation, good practice and significant achievement in health promotion activities in their community or workplace.
A Ceremony is being held today to celebrate all of this year’s winners who will receive their Award from Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE, Vice President RSPH.
Speaking on the importance of the awards, Lord Patel said: “Health promotion is an integral part to public health activities, policies and strategies. Increasing rates of lifestyle related illnesses and pressure on the NHS means we must be focusing on ways to address the wider social determinants of health and promote and facilitate healthy behaviours. I would like to offer my congratulations to all of the award winners, each of whom are very worthy recipients and should be celebrated for their part in improving health at a community level. It is through award schemes such as this that we can continue to raise awareness of the importance of investing in health promotion activities.”
Shirley Cramer CBE, Chief Executive RSPH: “Any organisation can engage in health promotion activities which can make a huge impact on individual wellbeing and we are keen to ensure the Awards are open for all organisations regardless of setting or size. RSPH strongly believe in the power of peer learning and knowledge exchange, and the awards offer organisations an opportunity to reflect on their own activities and to engage with others. We are continually impressed with the commitment and professionalism of the applicants and RSPH is pleased to recognise these 14 exemplars.”
All applicants to the 2014 Awards were judged on criteria which spanned their creation of healthy public policy; building workforce skills; strengthening community involvement in local developments; the development of health services and service re-design in line with local needs. The scheme offers three tiers of awards dependent on the level of experience, skill and impact demonstrated by the applicant.
