Dr Jyotsna Vohra, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at RSPH said:
“This commission could not come at a more urgent time. With cuts announced just this week to vital public health and health services, it is critical for us to shift the narrative and focus from health being linked to economic prosperity to it being the vital component for it.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated deep-rooted inequalities in our nation’s health. To ensure a strong recovery and long-term economic growth, we need greater investment in, not less.
“A healthier nation is a wealthier nation, and improving access for all, while addressing the fundamental determinants of poor health will result in a fairer society. Recognising this must be at the core of any levelling-up agenda.”
