Following yesterday’s publication by the Department of Health of ‘Healthy Lives, Healthy People: A Tobacco Control Plan for England’ on No Smoking Day, the RSPH welcomes the Government’s decision to reduce the exposure of cigarettes at the point of sale.
The Department of Health’s website lists three aims of the Tobacco Control Plan. These are to reduce smoking rates in England by the end of 2015 to:
- 18.5% or less among adults (from 21.2%)
- 12% or less among 15 year olds (from 15%)
- 11% or less among pregnant women (from 14%)
Professor Richard Parish, Chief Executive of RSPH, says “This is a very positive move by the coalition government and we welcome the Secretary of State’s initiative in implementing a measure that has cross-government support”
