Swimming Pool Water Today – Tomorrow is a seminar focussed upon the content and implications of PWTAG’s revised publication Swimming Pool Water, which launched in 2017. This book should be used by designers, suppliers, operators, monitors and managers of any pool – from the smallest domestic pool or spa to the largest municipal leisure complex. The book has been complied with a ‘conventional’ pool in mind – rectangular, indoor, no extras, used by people of all ages. But the principles certainly hold for all types of pool.

This book does not focus on costs. Nevertheless, the guidance we provide, if ignored, does carry very serious cost penalties. It is important that all who operate or plan to set up pools are aware of the essential requirements. Ensuring the health and comfort of all pool users starts with planning, design and construction and goes on to management, training and a continual drive for improved quality. Failure to meet these fundamental requirements undermines the welfare of both users and the pool itself, and ultimately the whole operation. Failure can risk the health of pool users and “Enforcing Authorities’ will not hesitate to prosecute those who put lives at risk and compromise safety.”

As a nation we are increasingly aware of health and the needs of individuals and society. We are also continually seeking better quality, particularly in our leisure time. Swimming is one of the most popular forms of physical activity. Demand is increasing, but standards must rise to meet rising expectations. A healthy, quality swimming pool experience brings enjoyment and satisfaction to the user. Let this, underly the future operation of pools
