The second phase of MECC for Mental Health project invites expression of interest from primary care, and community care organisations, including councils and charities supporting NHS services in the North East and Yorkshire

Royal Society for Public Health, together with NHSE Workforce, Training and Education directorate, invite expressions of interest from primary and community care organisations, including statutory or third sector organisations supporting NHS services, across the North East and Yorkshire for this mental health promotion project. Individuals nominated by these organisations will become Lead Trainers and Trainers for our MECC for Mental Health training programme that aims to enable mental health promotion through day-to-day interactions. This phase of the project will run from March 2023 until May 2024.

MECC for Mental Health

Embedding the MECC approach and promoting mental health are current national strategic priorities for the health system, and the effects of COVID-19 on population health have made this even more urgent. Estimates say that 20% of adults and 15% of children need mental health support now and in the coming years (Centre for Mental Health, 2020). MECC for Mental Health is well placed to support organisations interested in tackling this challenge through evidence-based mental health training that develops knowledge, skills, and confidence to integrate relevant messages and interventions into routine practice.

Following on from the success of phase one, phase two has been launched. Phase one across the north of England ran from Spring 2019 until Summer 2022. This phase trained over 1000 delegates, including 12 Lead Trainers and 100 Trainers. In the new phase, the aim is to recruit a further 12 new Lead Trainers and up to 56 new Trainers. This would enable the project to train 480 frontline workers in MECC for Mental Health.
