Case studies: Previous Hygeia Award Winners

A stamp of quality, a morale boost, and network opportunities - winning a Hygeia Award can bring a range of positives!

Joe Roberts, winner of the Young Health Champion Award 2018

I found out about the awards when the group leader of my Young Health Champions course nominated me for the award. Before that, I hadn’t heard of the awards at all.

Winning the Hygeia Award felt like a huge success for myself and the group as a whole as there was a large contribution of the group I was with towards the work.

The award ceremony was great, great to be able to see the work across the country of Health Champions and Course leaders alike. Also fantastic to see the ideas of others allowing my group leader to develop the way she delivers the course and future courses.

Graeme Bartholomew of Le Cordon Bleu, winner of the Centre of Excellence Award 2018

We found out about the awards through your news burst and the invitation to nominate on the awards were applicable. We were very pleasantly surprised and honoured to have won, especially as it was the first year of the award and we do not know who nominated us.

The award gave us a morale boost and we are very pleased to display the award in our reception, to show to our current and prospective students the clear acknowledgment from the awarding body of the teaching commitment we undertake on the programme.

Attending the awards ceremony was good to make contact with the centre and of great interest and educational to hear and see the other winners in the other categories and the great work that is carried out through the RSPH.

Emily Daniels, winner of the Heggie Award 2018

I found out about the Hygeia Awards through my course supervisor whilst studying for my Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.

Winning a Hygeia Award has given me confidence in my work. The whole department here at Addenbrooke’s Hospital is very proud to have won such an award that directly reflects on our ability to provide the best care to our patients and their families.

The award ceremony was beautifully presented. The service flowed well and there were lots of interesting speakers to present awards.

Michelle Dyoss, winner of the Excellence in Learner Support Award 2018

I was very proud to receive the Hygeia Award use it as a stamp of quality for the training and support I provide. I have the achievement at the bottom of my email signature, and I also include it on my presentations and introductions.

I had a lovely day at the award ceremony. It was great to hear about the other award winners too. It was a small intimate event which made me feel special and gave me a chance to speak with others.
